THE NIGERIA PROMISE EXPERIMENT

How the record is counted

Real outcomes. Clear definitions. Everyone sees the same numbers.

Promises made

All real Individual-track loans ever paid into a Promise wallet. Salary loans and test accounts are excluded.

Kept on the day

Loans fully repaid on or before their original Promise Date, measured in Lagos time.

Kept with an honest extension

Loans fully repaid by an approved new date, where extra time was requested before the original Promise Date. A loan already counted on the original day is not counted again.

Kept with an agreed payment plan

Loans fully repaid under an agreed plan, with every part covered by confirmed repayments by its due date. Loans counted in the first two groups are not counted again.

Still running

Unrepaid active loans that have not passed their original date, approved extension or agreed plan’s final date.

Promises kept %

Kept on the day + kept with an honest extension + kept with an agreed payment plan, divided by all loans whose final due date has passed, multiplied by 100 and rounded to one decimal. If there are none, the calculation is 0.0%. Early repayments enter the numerator immediately; this definition can temporarily produce a percentage above 100%.

Privacy thresholds

Totals appear immediately. National and state percentages stay hidden until 100 real loans have closed (repaid or defaulted). A state’s own figures appear only after 50 loans have closed there. Until then its activity is included only in national totals.

States and experiment day

States taking part counts distinct recorded states on disbursed real Individual promises, out of 36 states and FCT. Day 1 is the admin-set launch date; before launch the day number is 0.

Updates and open data

The page refreshes every minute. CSV downloads contain daily aggregate snapshots in Lagos time, national totals and eligible states only. Each historical row uses only disbursements, confirmed payments, extensions and plans known by that day’s cutoff.

Keeper privacy

Only eligible keepers who tick their own consent box appear, using first name and last initial, state, kept count and PromiseScore. Consent can be removed immediately. There is never a public list of people who missed a payment. Institution contacts remain private; only approved organisation names appear.
